Thomas Übermeier, interim CTO and engineering leader in Berlin.

I step in as interim or fractional CTO, VP Engineering, or engineering manager when a startup or partner-led team needs senior engineering leadership now, and I help funded US software and AI startups get technically ready for Europe.

My surname is written Übermeier. Uebermeier is the ASCII spelling used by some platforms.

I've spent over 25 years in engineering, starting in production support at Red Hat before building the IT operations for Mercedes Pay at Daimler. Later, I moved into Web3 as VP Engineering at Parity and Head of Engineering for the Midnight protocol at IOG (formerly IOHK). My work is about shipping software that works, from stabilizing critical payment infrastructure to taking complex R&D projects to production.

The experience behind the advice

VP Engineering

Parity Technologies

Engineering leadership for infrastructure at the center of the Polkadot ecosystem.

Head of Engineering

IOG / Midnight

Led engineering for a privacy-focused protocol from research-heavy development toward production delivery.

Head of IT Operations

Mercedes Pay

Built and operated regulated payment infrastructure with PCI-DSS Level 1 and GDPR requirements.

Infrastructure at scale

ServiceNow and Red Hat

Worked on global infrastructure, data-center expansion, production support, and fleets of tens of thousands of database instances.

How I work

I look at the product, architecture, data flows, cloud setup, subprocessors, support workflows, and engineering habits together. That is where European buyer questions become concrete technical work.

You work directly with me. I do not hand the engagement to junior consultants. When legal, tax, payroll, or specialist privacy advice is required, I keep the technical boundary clear and work with the right specialist.
